EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is a standard for storing metadata inside image files. When you take a photo with a camera or smartphone, the device embeds information such as the camera model, date and time, exposure settings, and sometimes GPS coordinates.
Common EXIF Fields
- Camera Make & Model: The device used to take the photo
- Date Taken: When the photo was captured
- Exposure Time: Shutter speed (e.g., 1/250 sec)
- F-Number: Aperture setting (e.g., f/2.8)
- ISO Speed: Sensor sensitivity
- Focal Length: Lens zoom level
- GPS Coordinates: Location where the photo was taken (if enabled)
- Image Dimensions: Width and height in pixels
Privacy Implications
EXIF data can reveal sensitive information like your home address (via GPS), the device you use, and when you took a photo. Before sharing images online, consider stripping EXIF data using our Image Compressor tool, which removes metadata during the compression process.
Privacy Guarantee
This tool reads EXIF data entirely in your browser using JavaScript. No image data is uploaded to any server. Your photos stay on your device.
